2018 is a special year for Buckfast Abbey as it marks 1000 years since the foundation of the monastery in 1018. To celebrate this, the Conference Centre is hosting a range of events from talks, to garden fairs and our ever-popular Pop-Up Kitchen Series. Here are some must-save dates for your diary this year.

Foragers Feast Pop-Up Kitchen: 13th April 2018

Starting at 7pm, the four-course menu will be a tantalising creation of locally foraged food, expertly cooked by foraging expert David Beazley and our own award-winning team of chefs. Alongside, foraged food, will be delicious produce from the monastery’s own farm and gardens.

Garden Fair & Blessing of Millennium Garden: 2nd June 2018

Buckfast Abbey’s Millennium Garden Fair is taking place on Saturday 2 June. Gardening experts, including Toby Buckland, will be joining us in the conference centre as part of an expert’s panel, open to the public. The Millennium Garden, which won silver at Malvern Spring Festival 2017, as well as winning The People’s Choice Award, will also be unveiled as a permanent feature in the gardens at Buckfast Abbey.

An Evening with Terry Waite: 9th June 2018

Join us for an evening with Terry Waite on Saturday 9th June. Terry will be speaking with the audience about his time in captivity and answering any questions people may have. The talk and Q&A will be followed by nibbles.

Buckfast Abbey Storytelling Festival: 5th – 8th July 2018

Buckfast Abbey Storytelling Festival will be an exciting event for all ages. With world renowned story-tellers and a range of activities across the site, the family days are Saturday 7th July and Sunday 8th July are not to be missed. On Sunday, the nationally acclaimed Snail Tales Theatre Company will be performing ‘The First King of England… in a dress’, which entertainingly details the life of King Cnut, the founding king of Buckfast Abbey.

Millennium Pop-Up Kitchen: 18th August 2018

The second in the series of the Pop-Up Kitchen for 2018 will be a millennium extravaganza as our talented award-winning chefs showcase the best of the best of Buckfast Abbey produce. We’ll be releasing more details over the coming months, so be sure to check back as tables get booked quickly!
